Location: Whiteman AFB, Knob Noster, Mo.
IEC dismantled, transported and re-assembled a Boeing B-47 Stratojet swept-wing bomber that dated back to the 1950s. Work included engineering proper cradles and supports, and determining how to safely remove the wings to allow the aircraft to fit on public roads. The aircraft was then loaded onto custom-built cradles with steerable driven axles for the journey to the new location. The IEC crew built a new display area on site, including footings and hold-down anchors, and sidewalks around the aircraft for visitor use.
